For our techniques class this week, we made a card using Stampin' Blends and Alcohol on Vellum. If you haven't tried this technique you will be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is AS LONG AS YOU HAVE 90% ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL or above!
I had tried this technique a couple of times previously using the ISOCOL Rubbing Alcohol from the supermarket which is about 65% isopropyl alcohol and it didn't work, which was really frustrating! I thought it was because I was using a straw to blow the ink around after applying the alcohol but after changing over to Diggers Isopropyl Alcohol from Bunnings, I could instantly see the difference. The rubbing alcohol does not really change the ink at all, so it can't move. Anyway, we had fun in class this week!
Card Measurements
Card base: 29.7cm x 10.5cm scored at 14.9cm and folded
1st layer: 14.5cm x 10cm
2nd layer: 14.2cm x 9.7cm
3rd layer: 13.9cm x 9.4cm (vellum)
Inner layer: 14.5cm x 10cm
Instructions
- Colour one side of the vellum with Stampin' Blends. I used Night of Navy, Daffodil Delight and Real Red, all dark
- Spray with Diggers Isopropyl Alcohol (100%) and you can then blow with a straw or a computer puffer or just let dry. If it dries before you are happy with it, spray it again as each time you add the alcohol it reactivates the ink
- When vellum is completely dry (only a minute or so) stamp image/s using Stazon on opposite side (for a more muted effect) or on the Stampin' Blends side for a brighter colour
- Stamp sentiment on vellum using Stazon
- Adhere 2nd layer to 1st layer
- Adhere 1st layer to front of card base
- Add tombow all over 2nd layer and spread with a sponge then adhere vellum (this way you shouldn't see any glue marks)
- Stamp image on bottom edge of inner layer
- Adhere inner layer to inside back of card base
