When I was thinking of ideas for my entry in the CAS(E) this sketch! challenge, I was looking through my stamp sets and when I got to Painted Poppies, I was reminded that in another week it would be Remembrance Day. It seemed fitting to make my card using Painted Poppies.
'Lest We Forget' is a phrase used in Australia on Remembrance Day which is held on 11th November each year to remember our fallen soldiers and to commemorate the end of World War I. It is also to remind us of all wars and lives lost, world wide. On the 11th November each year at 11.00am AET/AEDT a minute's silence is held to remember the lost and fallen. It is an extremely moving moment and most Australians honour it.
The Flanders poppy has long been a part of Remembrance Day, the ritual that marks the Armistice of 11 November 1918, and is also increasingly being used as part of Anzac Day observances. During the First World War, red poppies were among the first plants to spring up in the devastated battlefields of northern France and Belgium.
