Dragonfly Garden Alcohol Technique

It's time to hop again with

Splish, splash! Splish, splash! Anything water-related is the theme for this month! Splashes in the tub, fish splashing in the stream, waves splashing against the shore, golashes and/or barefeet splashing in puddles.

I have chosen to make a birthday card for a very special friend who has been in my life since we were both 3 years old! As we are both turning 65 this year, it's a very long friendship!

The colours I have used are ones that always make me think of her and her childhood home. I've used the Stampin' Blends alcohol technique on vellum for the background, which made me think of water and added a dragonfly as you often see them hovering over water.

Card Measurements

Card base:    29.7cm x 10.5cm scored at 14.9cm and folded

1st layer:    14.5cm x 10cm

2nd layer:    14.2cm x 9.7cm

3rd layer:    14.2cm x 9.7cm

Inner layer:    14.5cm x 10cm

Instructions

  • Colour randomly sized circles of Stampin' Blends on vellum (3rd layer) in various colours (I used Night of Navy, Bermuda Bay, Misty Moonlight and Balmy Blue)
  • Spritz coloured circles on vellum with 100% alcohol until happy with the effect
  • Let vellum dry or dry with heat tool
  • Stamp sentiment on vellum in versamark
  • Heat emboss sentiment on vellum using black embossing powder
  • Adhere vellum (3rd layer) to 2nd layer (I use a piece of sponge to spread glue so it doesn't show through the vellum)
  • Adhere 2nd layer to 1st layer
  • Adhere 1st layer to front of card base
  • Stamp sentiment on inner layer
  • Adhere inner layer to inside back of card base
  • Stamp dragonflies on scrap
  • Colour dragonflies with Stampin' Blends
  • Punch dragonflies out
  • Adhere dragonfly to front of card with dimensionals
  • Adhere dragonfly to inner layer using glue dots
